The Junior Yacht Club is an organization for Bay Shore Yacht Club members' children between 8 and 18 years old. Its purpose is to provide sailing related activities to its members. Any child enrolled in the sailing program pays dues of $25 as part of their sailing instruction fee. Any children not enrolled in sailing may pay this fee directly and participate in all JYC events.
Sailing Orientation and
Registration
What better way to kick-off the
summer than
to come down to the club to enroll yourself, or your children
in our
wonderful Sailing Instruction Program. This event is
multi-purpose --
marking the unofficial opening of the Club’s summer season. It
is an opportunity for the membership to meet the Sailing
Instruction
Committee, the Instructors, learn what it is all about, what
is expected
of you, and to ask questions. The
JYC hosts
this, and for a minimal charge, a pasta dinner is served. At
this time
elections will be held for the following JYC positions:
Commodore, Vice
Commodore, Rear Commodore, Secretary, and Treasurer. The JYC
Advisor
must approve all elected officers and will meet with the
officers during
the season to plan member activities.
Sailing Awards Dinner
Hosted by the Awards and Prizes Chairperson, this is an
evening when
trophies and certificates are presented to all the children
who participated
in the sailing instruction program. See the Bay Shore Yacht
Club Yearbook
for a complete list of all awards presented. Is it a wonderful
opportunity
to applaud our children for a job well done, and all are
strongly encouraged
to attend. Proper attire is requested for this memorable
evening.
Wednesday Afternoon &
Evening Races
Every Wednesday afternoon around 2:00 pm. Children enrolled
in the
sailing program may participate in these races with the
approval of
the sailing instructors. The sailing instructors supervise
the races
and awards are presented at the Sailing Awards Dinner for
various
boat class winners. This coincides with Family Night, where
parents
and other club members bring their dinner down to the Club,
enjoy
the races and each other’s company, with dessert and coffee
provided by the JYC.
Huck Finn Race
An all-time favorite, the Huck Finn Race is open to all
children in
the Bay Shore Yacht Club, and is sponsored by the JYC.
Children are
encouraged to make a raft and race each other inside the Yacht
Club
Basin. Specific rules and regulations for construction and
participation
will be made available in a flyer and posted in the JYC. A
Bar-B-Q follows
the races with fun prizes being awarded in many categories.
