My very best wishes for a Happy New Year to BSYC members and their families. I hope that all aspects of your lives improve this year and that Bay Shore Yacht Club can improve your outlook on life. Our club and its members have always been something I look forward to each and every day , and every day I try to think of things which will make the club better for you.
We have enjoyed two great years under the leadership of Past Commodore Kevin Donohue and wonderful First Lady Gail. Every aspect of club life and activities have improved and our club is on a sound financial footing. You will receive your 2012 dues notices shortly. Our 2012 dues will remain the same and a budget was adopted by the Board in December which will facilitate improvements. We have received an amicable settlement from the insurance company for the damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene and repairs will commence as soon as we can complete environmental compliance and arrangements with our contractors.
I am thankful that nearly all 2011 BSYC Chairpersons have agreed to continue in their capacities and their success has been well demonstrated. We are striving to improve all programs. For our increasing Sailing Program enrollment, a fifth club owned Mercury will be recommissioned. This spring, an Optimist fleet in which BSYC junior sailors participate will hold practices at our club. The Huck Finn Race and barbecue is an ever popular event with attendance over 100. For adult sailors, the Raymond G. Terry Race on Columbus Day weekend will be held simultaneously with the South Bay Cruising Club’s Discoverers Race, enabling BSYC sailors to be scored in both races. Our fall
Atlantique Rendezvous grows in attendance and camaraderie. A spring Race Management seminar is planned as is a golf outing as well.
Our clubhouse will continue to receive necessary repairs and refurbishments. There will be something that every member can take an active part in. Our Entertainment Committee is planning another stellar schedule. The Super Bowl Party will be Sunday February 5 under the able guidance of chairperson Tamara Vid.
I trust that this brief synopsis of some planned activities is enough to get you thinking about 2012 at Bay Shore Yacht Club. We want every member to feel the club is theirs and that there is friendship and good times to be had by everyone.
Looking forward to seeing you at the
club soon,
Yours Respectfully,
Russell Pearson, Commodore
